Québec is a bastion of the civil law tradition in North America and Montreal is its cosmopolitan centre with a distinctly European flavour. Montreal serves as a legal and commercial nexus between continents, languages and traditions.

 

Arguably, Montréal is the global capital city of aviation, home to many industry leaders as well as IATA - the International Air Transportation Association, and ICAO - the International Civil Aviation Organization.

 

Jeffrey Derman was trained in the civil law and common law at the Faculty of Law at McGill University. He completed his articling at a major Canadian firm in Montréal, served as in-house counsel to an emerging world leader in the aviation industry, clerked for a judge of the Court of Québec and provided volunteer legal services at Project Genesis in affiliation with McGill University.
